Tiré d'une histoire vraie, Paid In Full (Le Prix du Danger en français, mdr trop pourri) relate des événements ayant touché le gangster Azie (devenu piètre rappeur avec ses collègues du Mobstyle) et sa clique lors de cette période dorée du drug dealing. Roc-A-Fella Films ayant senti le bon filon en se procurant les droits du film, la transaction entre le ROC et Azie ne s'est pas très bien terminée : on a appris il y quelques années qu'Azie serait toujours en froid avec Damon Dash et Jay-Z pour cause de gros sous non payés (il accuse même Jay-Z d'avoir copié son nom). Anecdote à part, force est de reconnaître que le film est d'une qualité certaine, chose étonnante dans le milieu des longs métrages marqués d'une manière ou d'une autre de la présence de rappeurs : Charles Stone III réalise le tout de manière correcte (on lui doit surtout les pubs Wassup pour la Budweiser) et la photo du film apporte un petit côté retro bien agréable. De plus, la présence du old timer Brucie B en tant qu'éternel disc jockey du film fera verser une larme aux nostalgiques de bons sons avec du Eric B. & Rakim et autres Doug E. Fresh (qui apparait même dans le film). Mais le plus surprenant concerne le jeu des acteurs ; si on savait que Mekhi Phifer se débrouillait déjà bien, on est surtout agréablement surpris par les prestations de Wood Harris dans le rôle d'Ace, le couard peu ambitieux devenant un baron de la drogue, et de Cam'Ron, jouant avec nervosité le perturbé Rico (ce qui lui a valu un Source Award en 2003). On regrettera par contre le petit côté fan service avec des apparitions inutiles de Dame Dash et surtout de Noreaga qui joue aussi bien qu'un manche à balai. Sans être le film le plus convaincant de ces dernières années, Paid In Full est une excellente surprise qui vous fera passer une petite heure et demie bien tranquillement. À voir avant tout pour le jeu de Mekhi Phifer, Wood Harris et Cam'Ron. À noter que la B.O. signées Brucie B s'avère quasiment indispensable.
